This was a four month project completed in teams of two people. The design requirements were to combine two existing products into one new design. My partner and I decided to combine wearable technology with bike safety.
Ideation
We came up with two initial concepts: One was using a wearable glove with a LED turn signal that recognized bike hand signals, and the other was bluetooth turn signals that are added to the ends of bike's handle bars. We decided to go with concept 1 since it allowed for more flexability with users and was less dependent of the bike.
We started to play around with sketching different forms for the glove and the LED light signal appearance.
Prototyping
Our mood board to help with the aestetic we were trying to achieve. The main words were compact, athletic, comfort, minimalistic, illuminating, safety anf sleek.
Concept Finalization
Our finalized design moved away from being a glove and was instead an accessory worn on the left hand of the user. It uses LED's with gyroscope technology to sense which position the users hand is in for said bike signal, and illuminates the appropriate LED's to signal correctly to cars or other bikers in their enviornment. It would use a coin cell battery to allow for easy replacemnet when needed.
